What is the Children's Contact Service? PDF Print E-mail

The Children's Contact Service provides safe, neutral, onsite facilitated changeovers and supervised contact visits for children and their separated parents.

Parental separation can be a very difficult time for families. In particularly, it is hard for children who want to love both parents. Conflict between parents pains children and is harmful to them. Spending good times with each parent is very important to children and helps their development.

The aim of the Children's Contact Service is to minimise the children's exposure to unsafe and conflictual situations between parents. The service provides children with the opportunity to maintain a meaningful relationship with their non-residential parent.
Workers at the Children's Contact Service support children and parents during this difficult time. The children's safety and wellbeing will always be the first priority of workers. Workers will advance 'the best interests' of children through 'child focused' best practice service delivery.

Resources for Children's Contact Services Workers PDF Print E-mail

Helping To Put Kids First
"Helping to put kids first" is a guide for workers in Children's Contact Services written by David Cherry with Deborah Davison. This guide has been written for workers who supervise contact between parents and their children and who facilitate changeovers. The aim of the booklet is to assist workers in understanding the child, the parent and the interaction between the parent and child. It is hoped that the suggestions on communicating with the child, planning before a contact visit, worker safety and how to intervene during a contact visit when there are concerns, will be helpful.
